I am happy to announce that I'll be serving with a team from our local church, Full Life Assembly of God, in a remote part of Ecuador this winter. We'll be leaving January 31st, 2014 and returning February 8th.

We are partnering with Joil Marbut and his family in his ministry out of Sucua, Ecuador. The primary focus of this trip will be the construction of some clean water projects deep in the jungle on the western edge of the Amazon basin at the base of the Andes. We'll essentially be driving until the road ends, paddling canoes deep in to the jungle, and then backpacking even deeper to reach a community of indigenous people in desperate need of clean water. The journey will likely take us at least 1.5 days (each way) after we travel several hours from the airport to even reach the Marbut's home. From there we'll be doing some intense construction and providing some medical supplies for the community. With God's blessing, our service will open up the hearts of the people and we'll be sharing the Gospel openly with them. Our congregation has a long standing relationship with Joil and his ministry, having sent teams to help him in the past and providing regular financial support. I am excited to be a part of helping to reach the least of these in one of the most inaccessible and primitive places in the world.

On a practical side, the cost of the trip will be $1,875 for travel, supplies, etc. I will also be needing to update some of my backpacking supplies a bit beyond that cost with things like new boots, appropriate clothing, and so on. This has been a really tough decision for Amanda and I as I've been unemployed for a few months now and have only been able to save a meager sum so far. I know that God has called me to this journey so we've decided to trust Him for the provision. If you'd like to make an investment in the lives of these precious people, please consider donating whatever you feel led towards the trip, knowing that we are contributing sacrificially as well to make it happen. The easiest way to give for most of you will be through our church's website (link below) and designate the gift towards Jim Nally-Ecuador or something like that. Anything given through the church will qualify as a charitable gift for tax purposes and you will receive documents as such at the end of the year.

I will keep this blog updated regularly with relevant information on the fundraising progress and more on the people and projects we'll be serving. Please see the various links below for more information now.

P.S. I know this blog is also for little writing projects and updates. That's not changing, so look forward for a new post in that vein later today or tomorrow as well.
